This is one of the most common questions every newbie will always ask. I am going to define it in a short and simple way. Affiliate marketing is a business model whereby you earn a commission when someone buys a product you recommend – in this case , you are not the owner of the product

To simplify it further, here’s the 4 Basic step process involved in affiliate marketing

You find a product you want to promote
Do a search for the affiliate program where the product is found
Join the affiliate program and receive an affiliate link ( this link allows the product owner to track people who clicked your link)
If they buy the product, you get a commission.

Pretty simple, right?

It can be much more advanced than this but in this post, I am just giving you the fundamentals so that you will reach the point where you will be ready to make your first commission online

HOW AFFILIATE MARKETING WORKS

Now that you have known what affiliate marketing is, it is time to know how this business model works. When you recommend any product to your audience through your affiliate link, they will likely click or not click your affiliate link. When the link is clicked, a small file known as a cookie will be stored on the user’s computer or mobile device. When they buy the product, the product owner will then see that they were referred by you.

This is very important because, without it, the product owner will not know who referred a buyer that bought the product since there are many affiliates who will be promoting the same product as you

HOW MUCH CAN YOU MAKE FROM AFFILIATE MARKETING

The amount you can make depends on the type of offers you are promoting, how much traffic you drive to the site, and other online marketing skills like email marketing and SEO you have. it ranges from zero dollars to a million or trillion dollars.

HOW TO START AFFILIATE MARKETING ON YOUR BLOG

Having a website or blog is also a great start when you want to start affiliate marketing. If you already have a blog, then here are 8 steps to start affiliate marketing on your blog

Step 1: Create a Website or A Blog
Step 2: Choose your preferred Niche or Industry
Step 3: Research Products in Your Niche that You Can Review
Step 4: Sign Up for the Amazon Affiliate Program
Step 5: Find high-paying affiliate programs for the other products you want to review
Step 6: Create content in the form of tutorials, review posts, resource pages, or emails, and use your affiliate link
Step 7: Optimize the page and track your rankings on Google
Step 8: Rinse and Repeat!

There are three different types of affiliate products you can promote as an affiliate marketer – physical products, digital products, services

HOW TO PROMOTE PHYSICAL PRODUCTS

If you are looking for physical products to promote, then you need to visit Amazon and join their partner program.

Amazon has the world’s largest affiliate program, and once you sign up, you can get a link for any product on the site, and earn a (small) commission on it!. Such small commissions earned on a daily basis will turn out to be a bigger commission – patience

As an affiliate marketer on the Amazon partner program, you can earn between 1 and 4.5% on any product you promote, such percentage depends on the category of product you are promoting.

DIGITAL PRODUCTS

Personally, I love promoting digital products and that is what I do on this website on a daily basis. Digital products and courses are created by an expert in his or her field

There are a lot of reasons that information products are so great to promote:

Often they are higher priced, which means higher commissions
They can have a personality behind them, which builds trust and makes them easier to sell
There are often full marketing funnels behind them aiding in sales
They solve a problem or provide a solution that your readers are looking for

Generally, it can be a little bit more work to become an affiliate for these products because the creator will like to know your ability or your past records before they will allow you to promote their products

Another significant benefit of promoting information products is that they usually have higher commissions than physical products.

30-50% is a fair standard when it comes to promoting info products. Why? There are no hard costs associated with it. Anytime I want to promote digital products, i usually look out for high-ticket offers created by people who are experts in their field. All i have to do is to send traffic to their funnel and they convert it into sales. That’s it.

So if you have a course or product that you’ve personally used and seen a lot of success from, check and see if there’s an affiliate program – because if you’re going to recommend it anyway, you might as well get paid for it!

The third type of product you can promote is a service. The platform I personally recommend if you want to promote service is Fiverr. You can check out my post on how to make money on Fiverr. So it can be easy to make a sale on services because if I personally love and use them, there’s a good chance you will too.

You can also promote services that pay recurring commissions based on monthly payments. Good example is web hosting services, email marketing services, and so on.
