Do Affiliate Marketers Really Need a Website?

INTRODUCTION

Most new affiliate marketers usually wonder if they really need a website for affiliate marketing , this is one question that came to my mind when I started in 2017 .  Many affiliates are starting their affiliate marketing businesses on social media platforms , their reason being that it is cheaper and easier to set up .

While this is a good idea, but it also comes with some disadvantages . From My experience in affiliate marketing , I will be sharing with you the reasons why you need a website and also the dangers associated with launching your affiliate marketing business on social media platforms

AFFILIATE MARKETING ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS

We all are familiar with social media platforms like facebook , twitter, instagram and the rest , there is no denying that these platforms have made it easier than ever to build a following and also promote affiliate products .

You can easily set up a page , post a video , share a story or even engage with your audience which are also your followers in real -time without worrying about setting up a domain , designing a website or paying for hosting , which are associated with website management .

I believe that this is the reason most affiliates chose to promote on social media platforms . Social media also comes with built-in audiences, making it easier to get eyes on your content quickly.

THE BIG RISK

Permit to say  that building an affiliate marketing business on social media platforms is like building a house on a rented land – you do not own the profiles , the platform does . Any chane in their policies , or change in algorithms or even their terms of service could possibly lead to the loss of your entire account , your followers and even your income – this is a big risk

There are many stories of affiliate marketers who have built thriving businesses on social media platforms , only to have their accounts banned or even hacked – this can be frustrating considering the amount of work put in to build the business

When I started my affiliate markeing business, I only had my facebook account , I had no idea of websites so i started promoting heallth and fitness products on my facebook page . After some months, my facebook account was banned from running ads ( which has not been resolved till today ) , I was going against their policy without knowing it .

I had to venture into reasearch to discover that affiliate marketing business is best launched on websites you own and control , I started watching tutorials on how to build a wordpress website , that lead to the creation of this website you in right now

The point I am trying to pass across to you is that when you rely solely on social media platforms for your affiliate marketing or your income , you are at their mercy . You may wake up one morning to discover that your account has been banned completely and you are left starting from scratch – I know you do not want to be a victim of this

THE SOLUTION
The solution is building your own website , when you build your own website , you have the power to control it to your own terms and conditions -You control your domain, content, and audience without worrying about platform changes

This is why It is advisable to think long -term  even if you want to start with just social media platform . Having your own website also allows you to start building an email list – which is an asset that stays with you forever . Your email list give you a direct connection with your audience

You can still communicate with your followers, continue your business, and recover from any unexpected setbacks if even your social media account gets banned

CONCLUSION

I understand that many newbies may not have what it takes to take care of domain creation and monthly hosting , therefore I advise that you start where you are comfortable but plan ahead and think long -term .

Yes , it’s entirely possible to start your affiliate marketing journey without a website, leveraging social media to get started. But , if you’re serious about building a sustainable business, you should plan on creating your own website and building an email list.

Even if you start on social media, having a website gives you a backup plan and a stronger foundation for long-term success.
